Biography of Prof. Alain Gibaud

Pr. Alain Gibaud has completed a PhD in physics from Université du Maine (Le Mans) and postdoctoral positions at Broohaven National Laboratory (New-York) and Edinburgh University (Scotland). He has been working during his career on the use of large scale facilities (Synchrotron and Neutron reactors) to investigate the structural and physical propreties of materials going from the analysis of the « central peak » in perovskites structure to the study of mesoporous thin and polymer films by x-ray reflectivity and GISAXS and more recently to the investigation of the morphology of microalgeas by x-ray tomography just to cite a few. He has a long list of co-workers all over the world including visiting profressorships at Sandia Lab (New Mexico USA) Argone National Lab (Chicago USA), ALS (Berkeley, USA), Simon Farser University (Canada), ANU (Canberra, Australia). He is expert in the domain of synchrotron analysis of thin films (mesoporous, polymer, mineral …) and more recently in 3D tomography of small particles. He is the author of more than 250 publications in peer reviewed journals, & 5 book chapters. He is actually a distinguished professor within Le Mans Université

Séminaire: Propriétés cristallines et mécaniques
La caractérisation par rayons X et par spectroscopie Raman sont deux techniques très complémentaires pour l'étude des propriétés cristallines et mécaniques des matériaux. L'objectif de ce séminaire est le rappel du principe des différents modes de réalisation de ces moyens de caractérisation des matériaux, l'introduction aux variantes d'instrumentation, l'illustration par l'exemple des informations apportées et de la variété des matériaux pouvant être étudiés. Enfin, une attention particulière est accordée aux choix des conditions d'analyse pour la préparation des ateliers thématiques associés."
